Junkou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Western Fujian. The Junkou Formation was established by the Fujian Petroleum Geological Team in 1979. The type locality for the designation is in Junkou township south of the Jianning County of Fujian. The section for the designation is around Yanchikeng of the Ninghua County of Fujian.
Lithology and Thickness
The Junkou Formation is represented by a set of microclastic sediments mainly comprising light gray, gray green and gray black siltstone and mudstone. It is 195.5 m thick in the Hekou basin of Ninghua, 395.9 m in the Shaxian basin, and 567.8-573.5 m in Yanchikeng. It is 578.5 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base built up by sandy conglomerate and conglomerate is in disconformable contact with the Baiyashan Fm.
Upper contact
Its top is bounded by the appearance of purple red siltstone of the Shaxian Fm, showing a conformable contact with the latter
Regional extent
The formation mainly occurs in Shaxian, and Junkou of Jianning and Hekou of Ninghua. It is basically persistent in lithology and varies considerably in thickness..
